Learn More About Music Lessons at LAAPA

Thanks so much for your interest in music lessons at LAAPA! Below you'll find the highlights of our program offerings and general philosophy of teaching.

Who Do We Teach, What Programs are Offered?

At LAAPA our programs are available to kids, teens, and adults starting as early as 18 months with our "Preschool Music I" program. In our music program, we offer one on one weekly private lessons for children (beginning between ages 4-5), teens, and adults. In general, we encourage all new students to take advantage of our comprehensive music curriculum which focuses on technique, repertoire, terminology, sight-reading and ear training in each lesson. However, the needs and interests of each student are very different, and your teacher will tailor each lesson plan to your unique goals. At LAAPA we also believe that education in the performing arts should be fun! That's why our teachers strive to ensure that each and every lesson is not only progressive and goal oriented, but also enjoyable. Students are welcome to and encouraged to bring in songs that they'd like to learn - whatever the style may be.

More About Music Lessons

About our Faculty/Philosophy of Teaching

In addition to being professional musicians, our University trained faculty members are all carefully selected for their talents in education - specifically their abilities to effectively communicate key concepts to students in a variety of different ways. This ensures that students are always presented with a learning method most suited to his/her individual needs. Our faculty are here for one reason, and that is to help each student develop a love for the performing arts by sharing the skills necessary to play the songs he/she loves!

More About Online Lessons

What Styles of Music Do You Teach?

Our faculty members are quite diverse in their backgrounds. Some are heavily versed in the classics, and some prefer pop/rock/jazz. Whatever your musical tastes/interests may be, we have an instructor that we know you'll love!

What is the Tuition/Cost & How Long are Lessons?

Our tuition is $37.00 per half hour of instruction. Students may choose a 30, 45, or 60 minute weekly private lesson (with the longer lessons being more suited to students ages 10-up). Our membership fee is $50 annually. Instrument rentals are also available for drums, violin, guitar, and band instruments.

Complimentary Enrichment Classes & Workshops

At LAAPA, your membership includes the option to attend a variety of enrichment classes in addition to your primary lessons each week (at no extra cost). These are 45 minute group classes including: Music Theory Lab (ages 5-up), Songwriting Lab (ages 7-up), Vocal Lab (ages 7-up), Choreography Lab (ages 8-up), and Drama/Improv Lab (ages 7-up). A complimentary recording session is also available to all music students (ages 5-up) annually who are ready to release their music to the world or simply document their progress! See laapa.com/current-students/enrichment-classes for current enrichment class schedules!

In addition to our weekly Enrichment Classes, our music faculty host monthly makeup workshops should you ever miss your regular music lesson. As a part of our holistic approach for a well-rounded performing arts education, these one-hour workshops afford students with the opportunity to discover the vast world of music usually outside of the areas they will focus on in their private lessons. During these workshops, students will make new friends and can experience the talent and diversity of our entire faculty since you may book workshops with any teacher based on your availability and interest! Once enrolled, you'll have access to book all of these workshops or enrichment classes within the online application! Dance and Drama students are welcome to attend a similar level/style class as a makeup option by contacting the office in advance and getting the permission of the teacher. Once again, our enrichment classes and workshops are all inclusive of your membership and of course, completely optional!
