The Louisiana Academy of Performing Arts has brought the joy of music and dance to hundreds of families in Slidell and the surrounding Northshore communities since the early 90's! Our newest campus is centrally located in St. Tammany Parish between Covington and North Mandeville and is easily accesible via I-12, Hwy. 190 and Hwy. 59. Take exit 65 from I-12 W. Continue on LA-59 S. Drive to Campbell Ave and take a right at the Music Lessons and Dance Classes sign. Our school will be on your right side!
LAAPA came to the Northshore in the early 1990's after founder, Wanda Cullen started a music school out of her home in River Ridge and decided to bring her love of music to students in Mandeville.
Fast forwarding ahead 30 years, LAAPA now has three campuses in the Greater New Orleans area and has spread the joy of music and dance to thousands of families in St. Tammany parish. The majority of our students played their first notes or laced up their ballet slippers for the first time right here at our academy!
While there are several music stores in Slidell, their primary focus is on retail sales and the music lessons there are usually taught by a variety of individual music instructors with no one overseeing the program as a whole or checking in on each student's progress. Providing the highest quality music and dance instruction to our students is our entire mission and focus. We have many students that make the short commute to us and find it well worth the extra time since there is no other comparable school of music in Slidell, LA.
Where do our students go from here? It depends as each of our students have very different goals! Some students take the professional route go on and study at prestigious performing arts colleges and music schools such as University of Miami, Berklee College of Music, etc. Many others simply enjoy taking classes for fun and learning new skills that become a part of their family traditions and help broaden and enrich their daily lives.
At LAAPA, we are a community school for every student who wants to learn! Whatever your goals, our teachers can't wait to help you achieve them.
For your convenience, we've provided a comprehensive list of our music and dance programs below for quick browsing. Beginning students should consider first glancing through our EXPLORE links as they detail appropriate ages for beginners in each program.
