The Louisiana Academy of Performing Arts has brought the gift of music, dance, and the performing arts into the lives of students throughout Madisonville and the surrounding Northshore communities. Our patient and personable faculty have years of experience teaching kids, teens, and adults of all levels and backgrounds. Perhaps you're a brand new beginner interested in exploring a variety of instruments/programs? Are you already experienced and ready to push yourself to reach new heights? Exploring Music & Dance Lessons
At LAAPA, we offer a variety of well over 30 different music and dance programs, so it can sometimes be overwhelming for students to decide where to start!
In selecting your first program, consideration should be given towards both the age of the student as well as his or her interests. Over the years we have found that the success of the student is largely dependent upon both. Should a young beginning student not have a preference, the most common beginning programs for students (ages 5-6) are piano lessons (for music) and ballet classes (for dancers). These programs are staples in the performing arts world because of their fundamental principles that easily translate to all other music and dance studies.
Over time, it's important to understand that "the new car smell" of starting lesson can fade and it is the development of good practicing habits that sustains the student during periods of plateau. Practice is generally skill that is acquired over time with the help and support of both the teacher and the parent (in the case of the young beginner).
In order to inspire students to practice, part of each lesson includes a "Nugget" or that special song, riff, or choreography that you've been wanting to learn and can't wait to demonstrate to your friends or family. Nuggets play an important part in helping our students to plan for success in both their short term and long term goals.

Your Choice of In-Person or Live Online Lessons
If you've been wanting to get started in lessons for some time, but haven't had the time in your schedule to drive to a local school or teacher, then our live online lessons might be your best bet!
It's extremely easy to take lessons online, and you can login from anywhere with a stable Internet connection. Each week, you'll meet live with your assigned teacher and focus on whatever topics you'd like. If you're interested in learning to read music, great! If you'd rather learn to play by ear, no problem! Want to join an adult hip hop class remotely? Wonderful!
For the best experience, we recommend that students have a stable High Speed (Cable or Fiber) Internet connection as well as a computer, tablet, smartdevice thats no more than 3-5 years old. You'll also need an instrument for your lessons and for practicing, and dancers will need to follow our dress code guidelines (see dance homepage).
