Established in the late 70's, the Louisiana Academy of Performing Arts has brought the gift of music, dance, and the performing arts into the homes of families throughout the Greater New Orleans/Northshore communities. As the largest community school of music and dance on the Northshore, we enjoy working with a diverse student body. There are no auditions, concerns that you will "be accepted", etc. Our University-Trained Educators enjoy working with students of all levels and abilities, from brand new beginners ready to explore their interests to experienced students at the pre-professional or professional level. No matter what your music or dance goals may be, we know that you'll love working with your personal teacher here each week!
About our Lessons and Classes
At LAAPA, we offer two primary lesson formats - private instruction as well as group instruction. All of our music programs, with the exception of ensembles and toddler music classes, are offered in a private lesson format. Students enrolled in private lessons are personally matched with the best instructor for his/her goals, needs, and stylistic interests.
Within our dance program, students may choose from a variety of age appropriate classes which begin as early as 18 months (toddler/parent & tot dance). Students are encouraged to explore several different styles of dance whenever possible for a more complete immersion. Private dance lessons are additionally available for students of all ages.

Online Live Music Lessons & Dance Classes
Too busy to drive to lessons each week? Looking for a convenient, personal, and effective way of bringing the performing arts into your life? Consider online learning! Many of our weekly students enjoy taking lessons virtually online from the comfort of home! The majority of all programs you see listed on our website are available online via the Zoom platform.
Each week, you'll log in, be greeted virtually by our front desk (just as if you were here) and then escorted into your private online studio with you teacher.
To take online lessons, you'll need a stable Internet connection, recent (within 3-5 years old) computer, tablet, smart device with a camera as well as an instrument. Dancers should follow our regular class dress codes.
