Sunset Point Fishing Pier
Many of us dream about being a professional fisherman. We imagine the excitement and feeling of being at the reel; the freedom, independence, sense of accomplishment, and camaraderie that come with spending time outside in nature. It can be an intoxicating feeling... until you realize the challenge it is to actually make a living as a fisherman. That’s where places like Sunset Point Fishing Pier come in handy. Located at Massena St in Mandeville, LA 70448, the pier is situated on the western shoreline of Lake Pontchartrain in Old Mandeville. Even if you don’t have your sights set on being a professional fisherman someday or even if you do you should still give this place a try. The more people who experience this hidden gem of a public pier in Louisiana, the better!
How to Find Sunset Point Fishing Pier in Mandeville LA
Once you’ve found the pier, you’ll notice a large, blue fishing sign just off of Monroe St. Follow this sign and you’ll find the pier itself on your left. Public fishing piers are notoriously underused, so you should expect to find the pier almost entirely empty depending on the day/time. You may have to park several miles away and hike in, or drive right up to the pier, depending on the time of year. In Louisiana, the second Saturday and Sunday every June are designated as "free fishing days" so all are free to enjoy fishing without worrying about a fishing license. It's a safe bet that those days may have additional visitors! Another fantastic read.
What You’ll Find at Sunset Point Fishing Pier
The pier itself is fairly low key. You'll find ample space to setup your fishing gear as well as water connections at the end of the piere for cleaning the day's catch. Picnic tables and public restrooms are also nearby so you can make a complete day of your visit with the family. Bring a portable grill and you can enjoy your fresh catch right away! An evening dinner, in fact, will allow you to take in the amazing sunset over the lake.
