Jazz Studies (ages 13 - adult)

Instruction in Jazz includes a 30, 45, or 60 minute private session as well as a 45 minute theory class/assignment each week. The program provides jazz training in piano, bass, drums, guitar, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, as well as composition/arranging and theory (see our composition page). Once certain skills are developed (or if already studying privately) students may audition to join one of the Jazz Bands.

In the program, emphasis is placed on the following: ear training/transcribing, the jazz harmonic concept including chords, related scales, and chord progressions; reading and interpreting jazz charts; composing original tunes, and improvisational techniques and skills.

Our jazz faculty members come from some of the top schools for jazz in the U.S. including the University of Miami, Eastman School of Music, University of Northern Colorado, and Loyola University.
