So how exactly do you know when your child is ready for dance classes? How do you know if they are even interested? Perhaps they have been dancing and leaping around in the living room or tapping their feet to the rhythm of their favorite songs. These are excellent indicators that it just may be time to begin exploring the possibility.
Our dance classes begin as early as 18 months in our Parent/Tot Toddler Dance program. Students ages 18 months to 3 years will enjoy fun, exploratory classes with a ballet foundation. Parents attend with their children in "mommy/daddy and me" style. Students ages 4-6 years old are ready for our pre-ballet and pre-hip hop/acro dance classes. Once our students reach the age of 7, the doors open up for them and they are eligible for any of our level I programs including Ballet I, Contemporary I, Improv/Choreography, Hip Hop/Jazz I. We also welcome older beginners and work with each student at their specific level making all of our classes fully inclusive and tailored to your child’s needs.
Our faculty are certified to teach all styles including ballet, tap, jazz, hop-hop, musical theater, acro, creative movement, and improv and choreography.
Students will learn to stretch, master different dance combinations, choreography and more! In addition to learning proper dance techniques, students will build their dance vocabulary through terminologies used in each class to describe movements and techniques. Our faculty prepare all dance students for our recitals each December and June so that you’ll be able to invite your family and friends to see you perform on stage! Our main goal each class is to impart the joy of dance to each student so that he/she is able to enjoy dancing for a lifetime.
While it's wonderful if children have an early exposure to dance, it's certainly not a requirement. For students getting a later start in dance, we recommend taking more than one class per week and/or participating in our Improv/Choreography class to help with muscle development, body awareness, and stretching.
Stage performance is a vital part of a dancer’s training! In our dance program we strongly encourage participation in our June recital and annual Christmas show; however, we realize that not all kids - especially beginning students - are eager or willing to perform on stage. While participating not only helps the student grow as an individual and the class grow as a team, it is not mandatory. Students who decide to not perform during recitals are still able to attend and participate in weekly classes.
