Covington is an ideal destination for families seeking high-quality schools, recreational opportunities, and a picturesque downtown dating back to 1813. The City Center neighborhood is home to a wide range of housing types, including small and medium-sized homes as well as apartment complexes and high-rise apartments. Covington is home to the famous Southern Hotel which was built in 1907. The 43 room, mission-style hotel boasted hot water, electric lights and carpeting upon it's opening. In 1960, after 50 years, the Southern Hotel closed and was eventually purchased by the St. Tammany Parish government in 1983 to serve as an administrative complex for it's various offices. After years of sitting from 2005 following Hurricane Katrina, the Covington hotel finally reopened in 2014 serving it's original mission.

Covington's riverfront offers a variety of recreational activities, including fishing and sightseeing. Many Covington businesses offer tours that allow you to take a leisurely stroll through the river. Many of these tours feature scenic bends, rock formations, and the occasional rapids.
