If you are an adult who has always wanted to learn to dance but never had the time, beginner adult dance classes are designed exactly for you. You do not need prior experience, a dance partner, or a background in fitness to get started. Adult students study with us each week at every level, and many begin with no dance experience at all.
Explore our adult dance classes in Mandeville, Covington, and River Ridge and get started today.
Every class begins with a warm up to stretch and prepare your body. From there, your instructor introduces fundamental steps and positions, breaking each movement down so that beginners can follow along comfortably. As class progresses, you will combine what you have learned into short combinations set to music. You will never be singled out or rushed; the goal of your first class is simply to move, learn, and have fun.
Adult Ballet is a popular foundation for beginners because it builds posture, flexibility, and balance. Adult Tap is a great choice if you enjoy rhythm and music, while Adult Hip-Hop and Adult Contemporary/Modern offer a higher energy workout. If you prefer one on one instruction or have a specific goal, such as preparing a dance for a wedding or an audition, private dance lessons let you progress at your own pace. Adults whose schedules make group classes difficult can also study privately from home through our online dance classes.
For your first class, comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely is all you need. After you enroll, your instructor will review the dress code for your specific style so you know exactly what to wear and which shoes to bring.
A weekly group class is the most common way for adults to start. Consistency matters more than intensity when you are beginning, and a weekly class gives your body time to build strength and muscle memory between sessions. Students who want to progress faster often add a weekly private lesson to their regular group class.
Am I too old to start dance classes?
No. LAAPA teaches adult students of all ages at our Mandeville, Covington, and River Ridge campuses, and it truly is never too late to begin.
Do I have to perform in recitals?
Recital participation is always optional for adult students. Some adults love the spotlight, while others dance purely for their own enjoyment. Both are perfectly fine.
Where are beginner adult dance classes offered?
Adult classes are held at all three LAAPA campuses: Mandeville and Covington on the Northshore, and River Ridge in the greater New Orleans area.
How much do adult dance classes cost?
